Basic recipe

- Wide pan with lid
Ingredients
- 1 Onion
- 2 cups Orzo or Israeli couscous
- 2 cups Water (hot)
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 cup Vegetables (frozen mix) Optional. Peas, carrots and corn
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tsp Chicken soup powder Optional
Instructions
- Boiled the water.
- Warm a wide frying pan or pot with some oil.
- Chop the onion and add to the pan. Cook on medium heat until transparent.
- Keep the heat on medium-low. Add the orzo and blend with the onion, until the grains are coated with oil.
- Mix in spices.
- Mix in vegetables.
- Add boiling water, mix and cover with lid.
- Cook on low heat for 7 minutes. Stir occasionally so the bottom would not stick to the pan.
- Ready when there are no more water and the grains are soft. If the grains are not ready, add a little more hot tap water, and cook for a few more minutes until ready.
- Turn off the heat and let sit for another 5 minutes.
Notes
Better serve warm, but can be served cold mixed with simple Israeli salad.
